Ross-election

Ross Thomson, currently the MSP for North East of Scotland, has won the Aberdeen South Westminster seat with 18,746 votes, a swing of 14.75% from the SNP's Callum McCaig. Ross gained a majority of 4,752 over the SNP’s former energy spokesman at Westminister.

Following his victory he said, "People have responded to our message, our very clear message that we do not want to have a second independence referendum. The people of Aberdeen South have made it quite clear that they would like the First Minister to get on with the day job." He also emphasised that, “the North-east is sending a message that it’s fed up with the Scottish Government’s focus on the Central Belt.”

The newly elected MP will be joined by his North East colleagues, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP Andrew Bowie, Gordon MP Colin Clark, Angus MP Kristene Hair, Moray MP Douglas Robertson, and Banff and Buchan’s David Duguid who were also newly-elected in the General Election.

He added: “I think the numbers reflect a shift in public opinion across Scotland since 2015. Voters responded very well to our messageto oppose a second independence referendum and I think it is clear now that Nicola Sturgeon’s plans are dead in the water. With Brexit negotiations fast approaching, we need to make sure we are getting the best possible deal for the whole UK – particularly our oil and gas, fishing and farming industries.”

"It is a great honour to be elected as MP for Aberdeen South. I will work tirelessly for all my constituents and will always put our city first."

We wish Ross the best of luck for the future, and wish him the smoothes transition from being an MSP to becoming an MP.
